We

A sharing, a cry of loneliness,

A feeling—not an understanding.

A wail, a sob, a whine,

A silence, humming along the wires,

Disguised by the noise.

A grimace in a mirror,

A mask, a character maintained,

Not quite false: manufactured, designed.

Solitary, but not quite alone.
